Chevrolet Blazer Tires

Chevrolet Blazer Tire Service in Paris and Georgetown, KY

If you drive a Chevrolet Blazer, you are familiar with the style, performance, and safety features that are included in the Blazer. But you might not know how to fully maintain your Blazer to keep it running at peak performance. If you do not, a key step in maintaining your Blazer is tire maintenance. Tire maintenance is essential for safety, fuel efficiency, and saving money. To learn more about tire maintenance for your Chevrolet Blazer, keep reading.

Tire Type for Chevrolet Blazer

We all have experienced that moment – you’re driving down the road and one of your tires pops. You know that means it’s time to buy a new tire. But how do you know which tires would function best for your needs?
There are two types of tires that come on the 2022 Blazer: all-season tires and summer tires. All-season tires are designed to provide great overall performance on most roads and weather conditions. They can be identified by the last two characters of the Tire Performance Criteria specification code on the sidewall. If they’re all season, the last two will be MS.
Summer tires have a special tread and compound that are best for maximum wet and dry road performance, and not great for cold climates, including ice and snow.

Winter Tires for Chevrolet Blazer

If you drive frequently on roads below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, Chevrolet recommends buying winter tires. Blazers do not come equipped with winter tires, but they can be installed. They are designed for increased traction on snow and ice-covered roads. With winter tires, there may be less dry road traction, increased road noise, and shorter tread life. If you use winter tires, use tires of the same brand and tread type on all four-wheel positions and use only radial ply tires of the same size, load range, and speed rating as the original equipment tires. See us at Dan Cummins Auto Group for details about winter tire availability and selection.

Tire Size for Chevrolet Blazer

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer comes standard with one of two tire sizes:

  • P235/55R20 on the RS and Premier Trims
  • P235/65R18 on the LT Trim

If you do not know how to read tire codes, it’s a fairly easy process. The steps are as follows:

  1. First, look if there is a letter at the beginning. P will indicate that it is a passenger vehicle tire that meets U.S. Tire and Rim Association standards. LT means it is a light truck tire that meets the U.S. Tire and Rim Association standards.
  2. Second, look at the three-digit number at the beginning of the code. This indicates the tire section width from sidewall to sidewall in millimeters.
  3. Then, look at the next 2 digits. This is the aspect ratio, which is the height-to-width measurement. For example, if the size aspect ratio is 60, that means the tire is 60% as high as it is wide.
  4. Next is the construction code. This is indicated by either R or D. R means radial ply construction, and D means diagonal or bias ply construction.
  5. Then, the next number is the rim diameter. This is the diameter of the wheel in inches.
  6. Finally, if there is a letter at the end, that indicates the service description, or the load index and speed rating of the tire.

It’s also recommended that you consult with one of our Chevrolet factory-certified service advisors before you ask for specific tires on your Blazer.

When and How to Check Your Blazer’s Tire Pressure

Chevrolet recommends checking the pressure of your Blazer’s tires at least once a month. This includes checking the spare tire’s pressure, which should be at 60 psi.
When you’re ready to check your Blazer’s tire pressure, follow these steps:

  • Find a good quality pocket-type gauge.
  • Check when the tires are cold, meaning the car has not been driven for at least three hours.
  • Take the valve cap off the tire valve stem.
  • Press the tire gauge firmly onto the valve to get a pressure measurement.
    1. IF the cold tire inflation pressure matches the recommended tire pressure (found on the Tire and Loading Information label) no further adjustment is necessary.
    2. If the pressure is low, add air until the recommended pressure is reached.
    3. If the inflation is high, press on the metal stem in the center of the tire valve to release the air.
  • Check the tire pressure again if you adjusted it.
  • Put the valve caps back on to protect the tire from dirt and moisture.

In addition, if your tire pressure monitoring system indicates that you have low pressure, one or more of your tires is significantly underinflated and you need to check your tires as soon as possible. If you do not, the tire could overheat and lead to tire failure.

Tire Inspection for Chevrolet Blazer

Chevrolet also recommends your tires, including the spare, should be inspected at least once a month. You need to replace the tire if:

  • The indicators at three or more places around the tire can be seen.
  • There is a cord or fabric showing through the tire’s rubber.
  • The tread or sidewall is cracked, cut, or snagged deep enough to show the cord or fabric.
  • The tire has a bump, bulge, or split.
  • The tire has a puncture, cut, or other damage that cannot be repaired well because of the size or location of the damage.

Tire Rotation for Chevrolet Blazer

Your Blazer’s tires should be rotated every 7,500 miles. This helps to achieve uniform wear for all tires. If you ever notice there is unusual wear, get your Blazer’s tires rotated as soon as possible and ask your service technician to check for the proper inflation pressure and damaged tires or wheels. If the unusual wear continues, come in for an alignment service at Dan Cummins Auto Group Chevrolet.

Tire Rotation Cost

On our service menu, we have an estimated cost of $14.95 for a tire rotation. During a tire rotation, we will check and set the tire pressures and rotate the tires and wheels as recommended. If you want a more comprehensive service, we also offer an “Every 6,000 Miles” service, where we rotate your tires and change your engine oil and filter for $44.90. This cost may vary depending on your Blazer’s needs. IF you want a specific quote, please contact one of our service advisors at (859) 340-1340.

Tire Alignment for Chevrolet Blazer

If you’ve noticed that your Blazer is veering to one side of the road (without you steering it), uneven tire tread, high-pitched noises coming from the tires, steering wheel vibrations, or inability for the steering wheel to stay straight while you’re driving straight – you may need a tire alignment service.
During tire alignment at Dan Cummins Auto Group Chevrolet, your factory-certified service technician will check and adjust the caster, camber, and set tow, check the tire pressure and wear, and inspect the steering and suspension (adjusting when necessary).
At Dan Cummins Auto Group, a two-wheel alignment costs $79.95 and a four-wheel alignment costs $89.95. These prices may vary based on the parts necessary and labor costs. You can view what each package entails on our service menu.

Wheel Balancing for Chevrolet Blazer

If you notice uneven and faster tread wear, lessening fuel economy, or vibration in the steering wheel, floor, or seat that gets worse when you drive faster, you may need a wheel balancing service. Wheel balancing corrects the uneven distribution of weight between your four wheels, which left unchecked, can lead to vibration, decreased longevity of your tire, suspension damage, and increased tire wear. When you ask for a tire balancing service in Paris or Georgetown, KY, a tire balancing machine will spin the tire and wheel to measure the imbalance. Then, your expert service technician at Dan Cummins Auto Group will know the correct tire weights to install to correct the issue.
At Dan Cummins Auto Group, we offer a Wheel Balance Service where we check the tire pressures & adjust them as necessary, balance all four tires, rotate the tires, inspect the tires and wheels for wear or damage, and torque the wheel nuts as recommended. We estimate a cost of $39.95.
