Jeep Cherokee Oil Change

Jeep Cherokee Oil Change Near Lexington, KY

With excellent off-road and towing capabilities, the Jeep Cherokee is all about performance. If you are a Jeep Cherokee driver, the last thing you would want to happen is for the engine to go out. To keep your Cherokee’s engine at peak performance, routine oil changes are essential. To learn more about proper routine oil changes for your Cherokee, keep reading.

Jeep Cherokee Oil Change Intervals

The first step in maintaining your Cherokee through oil changes is knowing the proper interval to come in for service. If you are using conventional oil, Jeep recommends getting your oil changed every 3,000 – 5,000 miles. If you are using fully synthetic oil, you should get your oil changed every 7,500 – 10,000 miles. It’s best to check your Owner’s Manual to know which interval is best for your Cherokee, but when you come in for service at Dan Cummins Auto Group, one of our service advisors can also help you work out a routine oil change schedule for your Cherokee.

2022 Jeep Cherokee Oil Type

The oil type needed for your Jeep Cherokee depends on the trim, year, age, mileage, and engine type. The 2022 Cherokee’s engine sizes and oil types are:

  • 2.0L Engine – Mopar Certified SAW 5W-30 Full Synthetic Engine Oil
  • 2.4L Engine – Mopar SAE 0W-20 Full Synthetic Engine Oil
  • 3.2L Engine – Mopar SAE 5W-20 Full Synthetic Engine Oil

These are the recommended oil types in the 2022 Jeep Cherokee’s Owner’s Manual. If you have a previous year’s model, refer to your Cherokee’s Owner’s Manual or consult with one of our Service Advisors at Dan Cummins Auto Group.
The 2022 Cherokee engine was designed for synthetic oils, so always ask for synthetic oil. In addition, Mopar engine oil is always recommended by Jeep for your Cherokee to keep it operating at its best.

2022 Jeep Cherokee Oil Capacities

Each engine on the 2022 Cherokee also has a different motor oil capacity. The 2022 Cherokee’s engine sizes and oil capacities are:

  • 2.0L Engine: 5 Quarts
  • 2.4L Engine: 5.5 Quarts
  • 3.2L Engine: 6 Quarts

If you have a previous year’s model, be sure to check the Owner’s Manual for your oil capacity.

Checking Jeep Cherokee’s Oil Level

To keep your Jeep Cherokee’s engine lubricated, you must maintain it by checking the engine oil level. You can do this by checking the oil level at regular intervals, such as once every 2 weeks. The recommended time to check the engine oil level is about five minutes after the engine has been shut off. Make sure to check the oil when your vehicle is on level ground to improve the accuracy of the reading.

Differences Between Oil Types

Synthetic oil is recommended for all new Jeep Cherokees. Synthetic oil goes through a chemically engineered process to become more uniform in shape and have fewer impurities. It has better performance across the board, especially in extreme temperatures.
The next option is synthetic blend motor oil. It mixes conventional and synthetic oils to combat oxidation and work in low-temperature conditions.
The third option is high mileage oil. It’s made for vehicles with more than 75,000 miles to reduce oil burn-off and prevent oil leaks.
The final option is conventional motor oil. It is only recommended for vehicles with simple engine designs and normal driving conditions.
