The 4 Best Chevrolet Vehicles of 2015

Chevrolet is a deeply established name in the automobile business, consistently putting out highly reviewed, long-lasting vehicles that serve a variety of drivers. If a brand-new model isn't what you're looking for, here are the top contenders among last year's lineup. more 2015 Colorado The Colorado was first released in 2012 in other countries, but made its United States debut in 2015, sporting several body features inspired by the full-size Silverado. As a slightly smaller cousin to the Silverado, the Colorado is a reliable and powerful truck for drivers who don't need the highest price and horsepower in Chevy's pickup selection. At base, the Colorado offers a 2.5-liter inline-4 with 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque, which is ideal for drivers who don't need a V-6. The option is there, however, with a 3.6-liter upgrade that generates 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. Seek out 2015 models to get the most affordable version of this modern truck. 2015 Suburban All new for 2015, the Chevy Suburban was given significant updates over the 2014 model, like more assertive styling and the Silverado-based underpinnings. This hefty but graceful family wagon has a stronger frame and new options like adaptive shocks. Best of all is the interior quality, which looks richer and better designed. If the increasingly common compact SUVs out there don't hold your interest (or your family), the Suburban has the space you need for a camping trip, road trip, and daily commute. 2015 SS Getting away from the larger vehicles, the Chevy SS is a rear-wheel drive sports car in the middle price range, now much lower since it's no longer brand new. Sporty drivers can appreciate the feel of a manual transmission, and thankfully, the 2015 model received an optional six-speed stick shift, with almost no difference in price compared to the automatic. Despite being a sports car built for straightforward acceleration, the SS gets up to 15/21 city/highway fuel economy, and features magnetic suspension control for more stability on turns and curves. 2015 Impala If fuel economy is a priority, but hybrids aren't an option, last year's Impala may be just what you need. The full-size family car dropped the hybrid version in 2015, opting instead for a more efficient base gasoline engine that is compatible with natural gas fuels. The 2.5-liter inline-4 has better fuel economy than in 2014, while putting out an impressive 195 horsepower. With up to 18.8 cubic feet of cargo space and plenty of room in the front and back seats, Chevy defies the trend of compact and subcompact cars. The 2015 Impala proves that bigger cars can still be efficient, and use their greater size effectively. Though the entire 2015 Chevrolet lineup was terrific, these are four vehicles in particular that did something a little different. From slightly smaller trucks to still-large family cars, each experiment was a success in breaking the mold. If you're curious about offers and options on any of these 2015 vehicles, please contact us.

6 Songs That Pay Tribute to Chevrolet

Let's face it, Chevy is a household name. Chevrolet is such an iconic brand that many musicians have referenced the vehicles in their songs. If you've ever wondered which famous songs feature the word "Chevy" in their lyrics, we've written up a nice sampling for you: "American Pie" by Don McLean One of the most enigmatic songs of the 1970s, "American Pie" by folk rock singer Don McLean shot to number one for four weeks straight in 1972. It has remained a classic ever since, itself paying homage to the deaths of musical greats Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens. Chevy's place in the song is so prominent that it's in the chorus itself: "So bye-bye, Miss American Pie. Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry." more "Night Moves" by Bob Seger Bob Seger's "Night Moves" is a coming of age tale about adolescent love, based on the singer-songwriter's own teenage love affair. The song debuted in December 1976 and features the lyrics, "Out past the cornfields where the woods got heavy, out in the back seat of my '60 Chevy." Like most songs from the '70s, it's a poignant reminder of iconic models that make us want to turn back the clock and relive the good times. "Ridin' in My Chevy" by Snoop Dogg While many songs feature Chevy in their lyrics, it's a rarity to have the brand mentioned in the title. Rapper Snoop Dogg's song "Ridin' in My Chevy" opens with the lyrics, "When I'm ridin' in my Chevy and I'm sittin' at the light, at the light." Being a Chevy fan never sounded more dope. "Chevy Ridin' High" by Rick Ross ft. Dre Okay, so maybe mentioning Chevy in a song title isn't that unusual a choice for rappers. Released in 2006 by artist Rick Ross and featuring Dre, "Chevy Ridin' High" pays direct tribute to Chevrolet vehicles like few songs ever have. The rap starts off with the repetitive, "Chevy ridin' high boy, Chevy ridin' high boy/Chevy ridin' high, bumpin' gangsta music," making anyone want to get in their car and turn up the audio. "Chattahoochee" by Alan Jackson If you think Chevy gets a lot of nods from rappers, country musicians tend to go a step further. Chevy trucks, in particular, have long been the subject of country song lyrics, reinforcing their status as a cultural icon. Alan Jackson's "Chattahoochee" is one of the most noted songs thanks to its lyrics, "Well we fogged up the windows in my old Chevy, I was willing, but she wasn't ready." "Song of the South" by Alabama Another great country song that gives Chevy a nod is " Song of the South " by Alabama. Released in 1988, the song features the lyrics, "Well Momma got sick and Daddy got down, the county got the farm and they moved to town. Papa got a job with the TVA; he bought a washing machine and then a Chevrolet." It's impossible to list all of the songs featuring Chevy over the years. What are some of your favorites?

Winter Car Buying: Features to Target in a Beater Vehicle

There's no way around it. There are certainly circumstance in our life when we desperately need a car, and we need it fast! Based on your emergency budget, you may be targeting some lower end used cars... and you may even find yourself eyeing some beaters. Now, beaters get a lot of scrutiny, but they're not all bad. These vehicles may look rough and beat up from the outside, but they should still be perfectly capable of bringing your from one destination to the other. Of course, if you're targeting a beater car, you're going to want to assure that all of the vehicle's mechanics are working properly. Since it's the winter, we may see some very cold mornings. If you've just purchased a beater car, you're likely relying on that vehicle for transportation. There won't be anything more frustrating than coming outside and learning that the vehicle won't start. To prevent these types of inconveniences, follow our guide to understand the features you should be prioritizing as you pursue a beater vehicle during the winter. When you're finished, you should have a better understanding of what to pursue when shopping for used cars in Lexington, Kentucky... more Heating/Air Conditioning Systems This unit of your vehicle is especially important if you live in north. Those winter mornings can be absolutely brutal, and you're going to want to assure that these units are working properly. Even if you live in an area that has better weather, it can still be important to secure a vehicle that has an operating air conditioning unit. Of course, it's not all about comfort. These heating units help keep your vehicle warm, which could prevent your beater car from failing in the cold. Considering the importance of heat in a vehicle, you're going to also want to test the defroster. This unit helps remove any ice "wintery" accumulation from your windshield, which makes it a major safety factor. "Unless it's chillingly cold outside, a properly working defroster should begin to defog the windshield in just a few minutes, essentially as soon as the engine begins making a little excess heat," Bill Visnic, an editor at Edmunds.com, told Mitch Strohm of BankRate.com. Finally, testing these heating systems may reveal an even larger, more serious issue. "If you have the heat blasting and detect a sweetish, burning smell inside the vehicle, something in the cooling system isn't working properly or there's a leak," Visnic says. Operating Battery As we previously mentioned, those heat systems will play a role in keeping other aspects of your vehicle warm. Still, there are some car parts that are naturally more susceptible to damage from the cold. A car's battery is at the top of the list, so you'll want to make sure you're securing a vehicle that won't fail you in the winter. "Exposure to extreme temperatures can affect battery life," said Ricky Brooks, the CEO of an Alabama-based oil change company. "If the car has trouble starting, it might be the battery, but could also be the alternator, so both must be tested to rule out any problems." It may be tough to identify when you've come across a faulty battery. If the car has problems starting, you may be looking at a battery issue. Of course, the only real way to identify this type of issue is by bringing the targeted vehicle to a professional mechanic. All-Wheel Drive Capabilities You're going to want the best possible traction as you're traveling down those snowy and icy roads, and four-wheel drive systems are truly the best attribute of those capable winter-driving cars. "All-wheel drive can keep the car from getting stuck in deep snow or help you climb a hill covered in slick pavement," says Karl Brauer, senior analyst for Kelley Blue Book, a car research site. "Front-wheel drive isn't as capable as all-wheel drive in these instances, but it's better than rear-wheel drive and is also more common, making it a cheaper alternative than all-wheel drive." Of course, if you happen to come across a beater that he these types of capabilities, you should expect to dish out some extra cash. As we previously mentioned, the best way to determine whether a used car is capable is by taking the targeted vehicle to a trustworthy mechanic. They'll be able to identify any underlying issues that could prevent you from buying that beater car.

Our Favorite Chevy Trucks of All Time

Chevy has produced a handful of pickups over the years, culminating in the brand's current crop of trucks. Before we could get to the Colorado and the Silverado, we had some impressive (and rather innovative) pickups, and several of those model years stand out in particular. While it's unlikely that you'll find any of these used Chevy trucks for sale, it's still fun to explore these individual models. Plus, if you ever do happen to come across one of these trucks, you'll know that you should be making the purchase... more 1930 Pickup While the 1930s pickup certainly resembled the traditional truck we know today, many would argue that Chevy had actually produced a similar vehicle 12 years before. The 1918 Chevy Four-Ninety Half-Ton Light-Deliver Cowl Chassis resembled more of a golf car, although the vehicle was typically referred to as a truck. However, we're going to stick with the 1930s pickup as the brand's official entry into the segment. The production coincided (either intentionally or coincidently) with Chevy's purchase of the Martin-Parry body company in 1930, as the big brand used the former' brand steel-body half-ton design. Within the next five years, this now-traditional design became synonymous with all pickup trucks, although there were several changes over time. For instance, the half-ton pickup that was released in 1937 featured a stronger, more rugged body. Per usual, it wasn't necessarily the design that impressed. Instead, many focused on the impressive inline-six-cylinder engine, a unit that soon earned the nicknames (according to PickupTrucks.com) "Cast Iron Wonder" and "Stovebolt." These engines would evolve before the end of the decade, with a 78-horsepower unit eventually being added. 1955 Task Force Pickup Chevy started getting bolder with their design strategies over the years, and this culminated with the mid-1950s Task Force Pickup. The design was based off the 1955 Bel Air, and engineers even gave customers the option to include the smaller V8 small-block engine. The vehicle featured a larger, longer cabin with a shorter bed. When general truck fans think of a retro Chevy truck, this is probably the vehicle that comes to mind. Engineers further revolutionized the segment by including four-wheel-drive capabilities in 1957. The Task Force was updated until 1959, when the nameplate was retired. This wasn't the only new inclusion to the Chevy truck line during the 1950s. The Cameo Carrier, which PickupTrucks.com described as a "gentleman's pickup" The vehicle was only available for three years, but the website notes that it set the stage for future Chevy trucks (like the El Camino, Avalanche, and Silverado). 1972 Chevy LUV Everybody loves the iconic Chevy LUV, and it's not only for the cute name. When the vehicle debuted on coastal markets in 1972, it was an instant hit. By partnering with Isuzu, Chevy was able to include an impressive 75-horsepower four-cylinder engine and four-speed manual transmission. Of course, the vehicle also offered solid fuel economy specs, making it a popular choice during the 1970s. Customers were particularly enamored with the design, including the "ladder-style frame" and the "6-foot bed." The vehicle offered a 1,100-pound payload and enough room for two passengers. Whether it's Chevy's first truck, their smaller pickup from the 1950s, or the beloved Chevy LUV, the brand has produced a number of great trucks over the years. Based on the company's current trio of trucks, we can only expect bigger and better things in the future.

The Most Exciting Special Edition Chevy Pickups for 2016

While some drivers prefer to blend in with other vehicles on the road, there are those who choose to stand out in every way imaginable. There is something weirdly powerful that comes with driving a unique or custom vehicle that grabs the attention of other motorists. Whether it’s a friendly honk, a wave, or a gawking stare, getting recognized for how awesome your vehicle is can be exhilarating. Why drive a mundane vehicle when you can stand out in a jaw dropping pickup truck? With so many Chevy trucks for sale these days, we thought we would highlight some of the most unique special edition Chevy pickups that are available for purchase in 2016. Special Editions: A Chevrolet Tradition Chevrolet has been working with aftermarket automotive companies, designers, and engineers to create custom pickup trucks that their customers will love. Some of these special edition pickups were limited to appearance upgrades only, while others were outfitted with performance and capability enhancements. Chevrolet is an automotive brand that likes to keep things fresh, which is one of the reasons we love them so much. To keep up with the unique demands of truck drivers, the bowtie brand releases a few special edition versions of their pickups each year. These stand out from other trim levels, in that they are usually only offered in limited production. Once these special edition pickup trucks sell out, they are out of production indefinitely. Owning one of these Chevy pickups not only guarantees that you will stick out on your daily commute, but that you are a part of Chevrolet history - and who doesn’t want to own a little piece of history? New for 2016: Silverado Special Ops Edition & Silverado Realtree Edition Chevrolet made two very important announcements in recent months regarding their lineup of exclusive special edition Silverado pickup trucks. Back in December the bowtie brand unveiled their Special Ops Edition of the Silverado, and announced the Silverado Realtree Edition at the end of January. Both trucks are unique in their own right, and each appeals to a different set of truck drivers. Discover what each of these special edition Silverado trucks entails, by exploring below: 2016 Silverado Special Ops Edition: At the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the Special Ops Silverado was one of the stand outs, and a definite crowd favorite. With such a positive reception of the Special Ops Edition, Chevrolet made the decision to put the model into production as a limited release. The truck is based on the Silverado Z71 off-road package, and adds plenty of performance and mechanical upgrades to ensure absolute uniqueness. Exterior Appearance: The Special Ops Edition of the Silverado was designed as the name implies - as a vehicle for special operations forces. The exterior paint job features a camo design inspired by the Navy, called Razzle Dazzle. It is a three tone blue paint color, with varying colored lines and shapes that accentuate the camo appearance. A bed mounted sport bar features LED lights, while custom rocker guards and a GearOn utility rack storage system is also mounted in the rear bed of the truck. The unique front grille is body colored, and includes six-inch LED light strips across the top length of the grille. Large off-road tires tie the exterior look together, while adding a level of utility to the truck. Interior Enhancement: The military theme that is prevalent on the exterior of the Silverado Special Ops Edition carries through into the interior cabin of the truck. Bright Ejector Orange color accents are used on the glove box handle, as well as the door pulls. The interior seating features waterproof covers, while the floor continues that theme to include waterproof floor liners. The armrests as well as the instrument panel feature the same Razzle Dazzle paint job that the exterior of the truck wears. Mechanical Upgrades: To add a bit of performance to the Special Ops Edition of the Silverado, Chevrolet has included a new brake package, and exhaust and air intake kits. 2016 Silverado Realtree Edition: If you are an avid outdoor enthusiast, or have ever enjoyed the sport of hunting, then you have likely heard of Realtree. The company known as the world’s leading camouflage brand has teamed up with Chevrolet to design a Silverado unlike any other on the road. The 2016 Silverado Realtree Edition is based on the Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71 crew cab model, and was unveiled in Las Vegas late January.  Already dubbed THE truck for the outdoor lover, the Silverado Realtree Edition is as unique as it is capable. Check it out below: Exterior Appearance: The exterior of the Realtree Edition is completely blacked out. The sleek paint job, bowtie emblems, side steps, wheels, and logos, are all completely blacked out. Off-road assist steps and 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires round out the rugged exterior look, along with Realtree camo graphics on the hood, tailgate, and front doors. Interior Enhancements: The interior of the Realtree Edition of the Silverado features the Realtree logo embroidered on the headrests of the front seats, as well as on the instrument cluster. A wireless charging station comes standard, as well as Chevy’s MyLink infotainment system. Mechanical Upgrades: Included on the Silverado Realtree Edition is the Z71 off-road package which features Rancho monotube shocks, an underbody shield, Hill Descent Control, and the G80 auto locking rear differential. Essentially, this truck has you covered wherever your outdoor adventure takes you. 2016 Colorado Special Editions The 2016 Chevy Colorado is offered in two different special editions - the Z71 Trail Boss, and the Midnight Edition. Discover each of these special edition Chevy Colorado trucks by exploring below: 2016 Colorado Z71 Trail Boss: As the name implies, this truck is designed for off-road adventure. The second year this version of the Colorado has been offered, the Trail Boss includes even more functionality for 2016. A new sport bar with LED trail lighting is mounted to the bed of the truck, while 17-inch black painted wheels and all-terrain tires ensure you can reach your destination regardless of where it is. Round rocker steps, a spray-on bedliner, black fender flares, and all weather mats with the Z71 logo, complete the special edition Trail Boss of the Colorado. 2016 Colorado Midnight Edition: This version of the 2016 Chevy Colorado is certainly unique, and will definitely have heads turning on the highway. Hidden Costs: 3 Areas to Consider Before Buying a Car

Purchasing a car is a big deal. Whether you are looking into your first automotive purchase ever, or have years of experience at dealerships - the entire process can be overwhelming. There are countless options, criteria, and other important things to consider, which is why it's important to be prepared. Before even stepping foot onto used car lots in Lexington, KY, you should have a pretty good idea of what you are in the market for. more New or Used? That is a Very Good Question Whenever you make the decision to purchase a new vehicle, you should consider your buying options. Opting for a new vehicle has it's definite advantages, but choosing to buy a used car can save you a ton of money right out of the gate. If budget isn't your main concern, then you may want to consider purchasing a new car. If you are more budget-conscious, then buying a quality pre-owned vehicle can be a great option. We recommend sitting down and writing out a list of pros and cons to each buying option, to help you decide which one is right for you. Those drivers who realize the savings potential of purchasing a used car, should be sure to follow important steps to help ensure that they are getting the highest quality, well-maintained vehicle. Whichever direction you choose to go with, it is important to be aware of all of the costs associated with owning a car, truck, or SUV. Consider More Than the Sticker Price As it is well known, and as we have previously stated, buying a quality used vehicle can be a great option that will help you save money at the point of purchase. This initial savings can help out a great deal over the time that you own your car. Let's face it - owning a vehicle isn't free. There are a lot of costs associated with owning and maintaining a vehicle, that far exceed the amount you pay when you purchase your car. It's important to work these costs into your budget, and even more important to do a little research on the vehicle you plan to buy, before signing on the dotted line. Consider each and every factor about your potential new ride, because it can mean the difference between enjoying your new car, or regretting your purchase. A car is a BIG purchase, likely one of the largest of your life, so having any regret about it, is something no one wants to deal with. Top 3 Vehicle Costs - After You Purchase Your Car As most people are aware, the cost of a vehicle far exceeds the amount you pay on the day of purchase. From buying gas, to regularly scheduled maintenance, and more - owning a vehicle is a big deal, and can be an expensive, especially if you don't do the proper research. As most people are also aware, owning a vehicle is most often, a necessity. With the unavoidable cost of owning a car, coupled with the importance of vehicle ownership - it's important to know what to look for before you sign on the dotted line. Thankfully, if you do the proper due diligence, you will be able to purchase the right vehicle without killing your monthly budget. Let's take a look at three different areas that, if you don't do your research, can end up costing you in the long run. Fuel Costs: With today's cultural focus on gasoline prices, and EPA-ratings, this is one area that is least likely to go unnoticed. Despite the spotlight on this particular area, it is still an important one to address. Gas prices are constantly changing. This week, they may be under $2.00 per gallon, while next week they may teeter closer to $4.00 per gallon. It's important to take into consideration how you want your vehicle to perform when looking at this category. If you need a vehicle with a powerful engine that can perform essential tasks, then you will end up spending more money when filling up at the pump. If you only need your vehicle to get you from home to work, then a car that has a smaller engine will perform well, without requiring you to spend your life savings at the local gas station. No matter which end of the spectrum you fall on, be sure to buy a vehicle that is equipped with the right engine for your lifestyle. Maintenance Costs: Buying a used car, truck, or SUV can save you a TON of money up front, but it is important to make sure that the vehicle you are buying is in good working order. Once you know that your used car has been properly maintained, check out the specifics on the make and model you are considering, when it comes to maintenance costs. There are a lot of great resources available to car buyers, to help ensure that the vehicle they are buying, won't end up costing them more than the average maintenance costs. It is also important to consider that when you purchase a foreign-made vehicle, that regularly scheduled maintenance and parts may be harder to come by - and more expensive than cars made here in the United States. Insurance Costs: Car insurance is not only important to have for protection in the event of a crash, it is also illegal not to have. This is another mandatory cost that goes along with vehicle ownership. If you are considering a particular make and model of vehicle, you can call insurance companies to get quotes for what it will cost to drive. Some vehicles are considered safer than others, and will actually save you money with insurance companies. Likewise, vehicles that are deemed to be unsafe, will actually end up costing you more to stay legal. A little bit of research goes a long way with this particular cost, and your insurance agent will be able to quote you over the phone, prior to you purchasing your vehicle. If a vehicle has a cheap sticker price, but is deemed "unsafe" by your insurance company, it can end up costing you a lot more in the long run. Making a Final Decision Buying a new-to-you car can be a lot of fun. Finding the perfect make and model, and the perfect color to match your personality, can bring a lot of joy to your everyday tasks. While it is important to check off your "Must-haves" when you head to the used car lot, it is equally as important to make sure that your new car won't cost you thousands of dollars down the road. A little bit of research can go a long way with your new car purchase. If you take fuel costs, maintenance costs, and insurance costs into consideration when you buy your new vehicle, you can use the money you saved for endless adventures in your new car. A vehicle that has a higher purchase price, but low fuel economy, can end up saving you more money in the long run. Just remember that the opposite is also true. If a vehicle has a lower purchase price, you may end up spending a lot more money in fuel, maintenance, and insurance during your years of ownership.

Check Out This Car Vending Machine in Tennessee

You may have seen some innovative vending machines in your day. I've seen some that sell hot food, and airports often feature machines that dispense flower bouquets. However, have you ever seen a five-story vending machines that sells cars? We didn't think so. Believe it or not, potential car buyers can visit a giant glass building right off Interstate 65 in Nashville, Tennessee, slip an exclusive coin into the slot, and watch as their selected vehicle is delivered right to their feet. Not only is it an awesome technological feat, but it makes the car-buying process as simple as possible. To learn more about this innovative car-buying experience, continue reading after the break. We guarantee that the concept will never overtake any Lexington used car lots, but we can still appreciate the innovative and creative idea... more Carvana, a start-up automotive business, is looking to "remake the car-buying experience," writes Matt McFarland of The Washington Post. The company, led by chief executive Ernie Garcia (who admitted that the idea is "a little crazy on the surface"), wants to take the stress out of the car-buying process, transforming it into a fun and enjoyable event. “We just want to make it as seamless as possible,” Garcia said. “Having a new car is really, really fun, but buying it is not the most fun experience." "I think what we’re trying to create is a fun way to pick up your car that is also metaphorically representative of what we are as a brand," Garcia added to Ashlee Kieler of Consumerist.com. "It’s fun, it’s easy, it’s automated, and the customer is in control." The process is easy and pretty straight forward. The customer cannot haggle over the price, and the company won't encourage the buyer to add any deluxe trims or features. You choose your vehicle online, fill out some corresponding paperwork, establish all of the financings, and then travel to the giant vending machine in Tennessee, where you'll pick up your new ride. The 20-car tower is not employee-free, as staff is present to assist you in the process. The used vehicles are scrutinized and subject to a 150-point inspection that dives into every part of the vehicle. Potential buyers can even drive the car around for a week before they commit to the purchase. As McFarland writes, another incentive would be the financial aspect, as potential buyers can avoid dealership's operation costs. However, the inability to haggle a price with Carvana limits that advantage, as customers at dealerships could realistically negotiate a lower price and remove those fees from the final cost. The company has seen a recent boom in popularity, increasing revenue from $4 million in 2013 to $45 million in 2014. Garcia said he intends on building more vending machines in the new few years, although he wasn't specific about any locations. As we’ve seen in the past, it’s extremely difficult for a business to revamp the car-buying industry. As a result, we often see some pretty creative ideas, like this giant vending machine. While it’s very unlikely that they'll ever replace the traditional dealership, we can still appreciate the innovative idea.

Chevy Announces Hatchback Version of Cruze

We've got some good news for those who have been hoping for a Chevrolet Cruze hatchback to hit American soil. John Stapleton, the General Motors North America Chief Financial Officer, took the stage at the Citi 2015 Industrials Conference in Boston recently, and he confirmed to investors that the vehicle will soon be in development (although the release date and model year have yet to be determined). This is a big development for the hatchback market, where the Cruze will join a variety of already-available and soon-to-be-available cars. Of course, considering the success of the Cruze, we should expect Chevy's newest creation to jump to the top of the class. Before you head out to your local Chevy dealer in Lexington, Kentucky, see why you may want to hold off on making a purchase… more As Melissa Burden of The Detroit News writes, the automaker had originally revealed a concept for a 2016 Chevy Cruze sedan back in June. The "larger and lighter" vehicle is expected to deliver 40 miles per gallon on the highway, and it should be available for the start of 2016. There's no reports regarding an exact release date for the hatchback, but Burden wonders if it may follow the release of the sedan. Regardless, the company has already made progress on the vehicle, as previous reports suggested that dealers were shown the hatchback during a June meeting in Las Vegas. Of course, by progress, we mean that Chevrolet and General Motors has been busy orienting their vehicle towards the American market. The vehicle has already seen plenty of success overseas, as the hatchback has been sold in both Europe and China. Mark Reuss, General Motors' product chief, previously told AutoNews.com that the lack of a Cruze hatchback on the United States market was a "pre-bankruptcy planning mistake." “We are excited about the introduction of the all-new 2016 Cruze and what it will offer customers,” a Chevrolet spokeswoman said (via Burden). “The hatch variant helped make the Cruze Chevrolet’s best-selling car globally and that body style will continue to be offered in various markets. However, we are not confirming markets, timing or content at this time.” There are whispers that Chevy could be looking to add a five-door model Cruze to the United States market in an attempt to compete with rival companies. If we're looking for specifics, the brand may be eyeing Honda, which recently announced that they'd be releasing their own hatchback version of the Honda Civic. The Civic sedan will launch in the new few months, but it's also uncertain when the hatchback will hit dealer lots. Furthermore, the brand could be looking at Ford Motor Company, where the Ford Focus hatchback accounts for 40-percent of the nameplate's sales. As Burden points out, other potential competitors are the Hyundai Elantra, Volkswagen Golf and Mazda3. Jens Meiners of CarAndDriver.com also suggests that Chevy could be wanting to add a hatchback due to the desire to have a bigger, more flexible, and stylish vehicle. In reviewing the European version, the writer noted how family friendly the vehicle was, noting the vehicle's (surprisingly) roomy interior. Meiners also appreciated the quiet and "unobtrusive" motor noise, making "long journeys" that much more enjoyable. Finally, the writer was impressed with the styling of the hatchback, noting that the designers have added "tension to an attractive but somewhat conservative design." While all of these car brands look to add hatchbacks to their line of cars, the segment has generally been declining in sales over the past few years. Tom Libby, the manager of loyalty solutions and industry analysis at HIS Automotive, told Burden that hatchbacks accounted for 5.2-percent of retail sales in the past year. However, "the hatchback percentage in the U.S. has fallen each year since 2012." Reversely, Libby anticipates the percentage to climb to 5.8-percent by 2018 (he also anticipates the Cruze hatchback to hit the United States market by 2017). “The success of the crossover is affecting all other body types except for pickups,” Libby said, noting that Chevy's desire to add the segment is an acknowledgement that production of a Cruze is "partially in response to the success of the Focus." The foreign hatchback was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 2010, and sales began in 2011. The standard European Cruze Hatchback offers a LS four-cylinder 1.4-liter engine with front-wheel drive, a five-speed manual transmission, McPherson Strut/Compound Crank Axles, and a multi-point fuel injection system. The vehicle can deliver an estimated 98 horsepower, 95 ft-lbs of torque, 52.3 mile per gallon combined fuel efficiency, and it has an estimated 0-60 time of 14.1 seconds. The vehicle rides on 16-inch steel wheels. The vehicle is available in ten different colors (including Summit White, Blue Sapphire, Carbon Flash Black, Deep Espresso Brown, Ice Silver, Mars Stone, Mystic Moonlight Blue, Satin Steel Grey, Smokey Grey, and Velvet Red), and it's accented by a black grille. Chevy has also included bi-functional halogen headlamps and tinted glass. Head to the inside of the hatchback, and you'll find multiple 12-volt power sockets, a trip computer, a roomy storage box, and a leather-wrapped gear knob and steering wheel. Among the safety features are an anti-lock braking system, an electronic stability control, rear parking sensors, a tire pressure monitoring system, and an innovative ISOFIX child seat restraint system. The Chevy Cruze hit the market in 2009, but the nameplate had previously been used in Japan for a Suzuki-Chevy subcompact hatchback. In the United States, the Cruze replaced the Chevy Cobalt and the Daewoo Lacetti, and the brand was counting on the vehicle to help turn around sales. The inexpensive (albeit, innovative) vehicle was an immediate hit in America and around the world. The nameplate has been commended for it's safety features, receiving a score of 35.04 points out of 37 from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program in 2009. The vehicle also received high scores in China, Europe, and South Korea. In the United States, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rewarded the vehicle the highest possible score in front, side, rear and rollover crash protection tests, and it was also deemed a 'Top Safety Pick.' The second generation Cruze has been in the works since 2013, but the launch has been delayed multiple times. Expected to be released for the 2016 model year, the vehicle will feature an updated split grille and a more powerful, muscle-car-inspired look. The size of the vehicle isn't expected to change, but Chevy is rumored to be eyeing the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, as well as a dual-clutch transmission. The brand has also been equipping their vehicles with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and we should expect to see their future vehicles feature these capabilities. As we mentioned, you'll have to wait some time for the Cruze hatchback to hit your local Chevy lot, but that doesn't mean you can't anticipate the release. If you've been awaiting such a vehicle, this could be the vehicle for you! In the meantime, visit Dan Cummins Chevrolet in Paris, Kentucky. Even if you're not seeking a hatchback, you'll find a variety of vehicles that will fit your needs! Head in there today, and you could be driving off the lot in a new car in no time!
