Dan Cummins Auto Group

Dec 2, 2022

Dan Cummins Auto Group is proud to call Paris, KY home. Known as the “Thoroughbred Capital of the World,” Paris is home to many beautiful horse farms that are worth visiting. If you want to visit, here’s a quick guide to some of the stunning horse farms in Bourbon County.

Claiborne Farms

Known for being the resting place of the iconic Secretariat, Claiborne Farms is one of the most famous horse farms in Paris. Ten Kentucky Derby Winners were raised at Claiborne Farm and six of thirteen Triple Crown winners were sired by stallions at Claiborne Farms.

Claiborne has been in one family for over a century: the Walkers. They attribute their success to “adhering to the best principles of stewardship of the land, horses, and the sport of Thoroughbred racing.”

If you choose to visit Claiborne, you can choose between an all-farm shuttle tour, a private stallion tour, or a guided group tour. During each tour, you’ll get the opportunity to see where Secretariat is buried, the breeding shed, and more. To book your visit and learn more about Claiborne, click here.

Runnymede Farm

Runnymede is a picturesque 365-acre nursery in Bourbon County. It was founded in 1867 by the current owner, Brutus Clay’s, great-grandfather, Colonel Ezekiel Clay. It’s claimed to be the oldest continuously operated Thoroughbred breeding farm in Kentucky.

The farm chairman, Catesby Clay, said, “Breeding horses is more than a business for us—it’s a family tradition that’s been a way of life for generations of Clays. Everything we do is a testament to my grandfather, Ezekiel Clay, and his dedication to the breed. That aspect of Runnymede will never change.”

If you want to learn more about Runnymede, you can visit their website here. To get updates on what’s going on at Runnymede, you can follow their Facebook and Instagram.

Clover Hill Farm

Different from the previously listed farms, Clover Hill is an equine retirement boarding facility in Paris that also offers limited boarding and riding lessons. It’s owned by the Dorochenko family, who opened their family farm in 2017 to help aging horses in the community.

The Clover Hill grounds are compromised of an Upper Barn, a Lower Barn, a Covered Arena, and beautiful green and sprawling pastures. The Upper Barn is the general boarding barn and houses Sport, Pleasure, and Retirement horses. The Lower Barn is a boarding barn for horses in training and rehabilitation. The Covered Arena has masonry sand footing and is 140 ft. by 85 ft. The pastures range from individual turnouts to large, green fields.
