Everyone dreams of being a celebrity, but have you ever thought of driving in a celebrity? That may have sounded a bit odd. We're referring to the Chevrolet Celebrity, a mid-size car that was available through much of the 1980s. While you may have never heard of the nameplate, the vehicle was actually a hit back in its heyday, actually leading all vehicles in United States sales in 1986. Let's take a step back in time and remember the Celebrity. Who knows, when you're finishing reading, you may be inclined to pursue the vehicle at a Kentucky Chevrolet dealer... more Despite only lasting for only one generation, the Chevy Celebrity saw several facelifts over its nine-year run, including revamps in 1984, 1986 and 1987. The vehicle initially made its debut as a smaller coupe, but the designation was eventually switched to mid-size coupe. A station wagon option was also available. The original Chevy Celebrity debuted in 1981 (as a 1982 model), but the name had previously been by used by General Motors as an option for a 1960s Oldsmobile sedan. The new Celebrity was based on the front-wheel drive A-body style previously featured in the Buick Century, Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, the Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser, and the Pontiac 6000. There were two engine options for the original Celebrity - a tech IV 2.5-liter TBI I4 and a powerful fuel-injected 2.8-liter V6 - and both were coupled with an automatic transmission. A five-speed manual transmission option was briefly offered, but it was eventually discarded. A 4.3-liter Diesel V6 was eventually included as an option, and the unit eventually gained praise from both critics and customers. The inclusion of full-wheel drive capabilities was perhaps the most important development for the vehicle, as the move allowed for significantly more interior space (especially when compared to the similar Malibu). As Jalopnik.com writes, there wasn't another vehicle that could offer "the room it gives you for the mileage it gives you at any price." At one point, the vehicle was capable of delivering a 24 city/39 highway mile per gallon fuel efficiency. Meanwhile, the 1986 and 1987 model proved to be the most popular in the nameplate's history, as the Celebrity was the best-selling car in the United States in 1986. There were several different versions of the Celebrity available during the nameplate's run. The Eurosport handling and appearance package offered Sports Rallye wheels, a black exterior and interior (with red accents and emblems), and a durable F41 suspension. The Celebrity CL included many of the same mechanic amenities, but it differed with a woodgrain dash, as well as plush seats and eye-catching diamond-spoke wheels. Other options included the Celebrity Classic (improved rear windows, mock convertible top) and Celebrity Estate (woodgrain siding). The coupe's run surprisingly ended in 1988, and the sedan ended production in the summer of 1989. The wagon, the final lasting member of the Celebrity nameplate, was retired in 1990 and replaced by the Lumina. This may seem like odd timing, as the vehicle was the country's best-selling vehicle only four years prior. It seems like the brand didn't put much stock into these sales, and Chevy was continually looking to replace the vehicle will improved, modernized options. This wasn't necessarily shortsighted, as several of the possible replacements (the Lumina and the Malibu) also proved to be big hits. Still, the Chevy Celebrity proved to be one of the brand's most beloved sedans, and it should be included on any list of vehicles that were "discontinued too soon." Luckily, you can still get your hands on a Chevy Celebrity. A used 1980s model shouldn't cost you more than $2,000!

Later this year, Kentucky Chevrolet dealers will see the new 2016 Chevy Bolt EV glide into their lots. This little gem will go down in history as the electric car that gives you the most bang for your buck. Well, spark for your buck…  since the 2016 Chevy Bolt EV will be able to get over 200 miles of electric driving range. To put that into perspective for you, the 2016 Hyundai Hybrid Plug-in can only go a range of 27 miles, 600 combined with it’s hybrid engine. Which means this little hatchback can drive a third of a plug-in hybrids total driving range on just electric power alone. That just goes to show how ahead of its time this car really is. Let’s compare and contrast the driving range and price to some of the other 2016 models, too give a better understanding of just how advanced it really is. Driving Range The driving range on the current Chevy Spark EV model is only sitting at 82 miles on one charge, which means the 2016 Bolt EV will be able to more than double the driving range on Chevy’s current electric vehicle. As far as competitors go, the Nissan Leaf is only offered with a maximum driving range of 107 miles per charge, and is one of the leaders on the market in terms of electric driving range, and the Bolt EV nearly doubles that as well. Overall, the Bolt EV is able to nearly double the electric driving range of any other electric car on the market. There is only one vehicle out there that’s able to beat in in driving range, and that’s the Tesla Model S 70, which gets 240 miles per charge. However, the price on the Tesla Model S 70 is $70,000. Which means the only way to beat the Bolt EV in 2016 is by shelling out twice as much. Price The Bolt EV will have a starting price of $37,500, before federal tax is applied. Which is more expensive than some of the current electric cars on the market, but it’s a justified price. Especially when you take into account the 200 miles per charge that’s offered in the Bolt EV. For example, the 2016 Soul EV has a range of 93 starts at an MSRP of $24,450. It’s about $10,000 dollars less than the Chevy Bolt EV, but it’s also one of the weaker electric cars on the market. Therefore, let’s take a look at the Nissan Leaf that was mentioned earlier. The Nissan Leaf comes in at $35,050 before federal tax, and is considered to be one of the top electric cars currently on the market. This means the Bolt EV is able to double the driving range of one of the top electric cars on the market, for just over a $2,000 increase in price. The Bolt EV is clearly the best priced electric car on the market when it comes to electric driving range, providing you the most spark for your buck in 2016.

Outfitted with Chevy's 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, the new Chevy Cruze is anticipated to provide an estimated 40 highway mpg. The 2016 Chevy Silverado A long-standing Chevy favorite, the full-size Silverado 1500 pickup truck really shows off in the new model year, boasting a few "best-in-class" accolades already. We've got some good news for those who have been hoping for a Chevrolet Cruze hatchback to hit American soil. John Stapleton, the General Motors North America Chief Financial Officer, took the stage at the Citi 2015 Industrials Conference in Boston recently, and he confirmed to investors that the vehicle will soon be in development (although the release date and model year have yet to be determined). This is a big development for the hatchback market, where the Cruze will join a variety of already-available and soon-to-be-available cars. Of course, considering the success of the Cruze, we should expect Chevy's newest creation to jump to the top of the class. The "larger and lighter" vehicle is expected to deliver 40 miles per gallon on the highway, and it should be available for the start of 2016. There's no reports regarding an exact release date for the hatchback, but Burden wonders if it may follow the release of the sedan. Regardless, the company has already made progress on the vehicle, as previous reports suggested that dealers were shown the hatchback during a June meeting in Las Vegas. Of course, by progress, we mean that Chevrolet and General Motors has been busy orienting their vehicle towards the American market. The vehicle has already seen plenty of success overseas, as the hatchback has been sold in both Europe and China. Mark Reuss, General Motors' product chief, previously told AutoNews.com that the lack of a Cruze hatchback on the United States market was a "pre-bankruptcy planning mistake." “We are excited about the introduction of the all-new 2016 Cruze and what it will offer customers,” a Chevrolet spokeswoman said (via Burden). “The hatch variant helped make the Cruze Chevrolet’s best-selling car globally and that body style will continue to be offered in various markets. However, we are not confirming markets, timing or content at this time.” There are whispers that Chevy could be looking to add a five-door model Cruze to the United States market in an attempt to compete with rival companies. If we're looking for specifics, the brand may be eyeing Honda, which recently announced that they'd be releasing their own hatchback version of the Honda Civic. The Civic sedan will launch in the new few months, but it's also uncertain when the hatchback will hit dealer lots. Furthermore, the brand could be looking at Ford Motor Company, where the Ford Focus hatchback accounts for 40-percent of the nameplate's sales. As Burden points out, other potential competitors are the Hyundai Elantra, Volkswagen Golf and Mazda3. Jens Meiners of CarAndDriver.com also suggests that Chevy could be wanting to add a hatchback due to the desire to have a bigger, more flexible, and stylish vehicle. In reviewing the European version, the writer noted how family friendly the vehicle was, noting the vehicle's (surprisingly) roomy interior. Meiners also appreciated the quiet and "unobtrusive" motor noise, making "long journeys" that much more enjoyable. Finally, the writer was impressed with the styling of the hatchback, noting that the designers have added "tension to an attractive but somewhat conservative design." While all of these car brands look to add hatchbacks to their line of cars, the segment has generally been declining in sales over the past few years. Tom Libby, the manager of loyalty solutions and industry analysis at HIS Automotive, told Burden that hatchbacks accounted for 5.2-percent of retail sales in the past year. However, "the hatchback percentage in the U.S. has fallen each year since 2012." Reversely, Libby anticipates the percentage to climb to 5.8-percent by 2018 (he also anticipates the Cruze hatchback to hit the United States market by 2017). “The success of the crossover is affecting all other body types except for pickups,” Libby said, noting that Chevy's desire to add the segment is an acknowledgement that production of a Cruze is "partially in response to the success of the Focus." The foreign hatchback was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 2010, and sales began in 2011. The standard European Cruze Hatchback offers a LS four-cylinder 1.4-liter engine with front-wheel drive, a five-speed manual transmission, McPherson Strut/Compound Crank Axles, and a multi-point fuel injection system. The vehicle can deliver an estimated 98 horsepower, 95 ft-lbs of torque, 52.3 mile per gallon combined fuel efficiency, and it has an estimated 0-60 time of 14.1 seconds. The vehicle rides on 16-inch steel wheels. The vehicle is available in ten different colors (including Summit White, Blue Sapphire, Carbon Flash Black, Deep Espresso Brown, Ice Silver, Mars Stone, Mystic Moonlight Blue, Satin Steel Grey, Smokey Grey, and Velvet Red), and it's accented by a black grille. Chevy has also included bi-functional halogen headlamps and tinted glass. Head to the inside of the hatchback, and you'll find multiple 12-volt power sockets, a trip computer, a roomy storage box, and a leather-wrapped gear knob and steering wheel. Among the safety features are an anti-lock braking system, an electronic stability control, rear parking sensors, a tire pressure monitoring system, and an innovative ISOFIX child seat restraint system. The Chevy Cruze hit the market in 2009, but the nameplate had previously been used in Japan for a Suzuki-Chevy subcompact hatchback. In the United States, the Cruze replaced the Chevy Cobalt and the Daewoo Lacetti, and the brand was counting on the vehicle to help turn around sales. The inexpensive (albeit, innovative) vehicle was an immediate hit in America and around the world. The nameplate has been commended for it's safety features, receiving a score of 35.04 points out of 37 from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program in 2009. The vehicle also received high scores in China, Europe, and South Korea. In the United States, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rewarded the vehicle the highest possible score in front, side, rear and rollover crash protection tests, and it was also deemed a 'Top Safety Pick.' The second generation Cruze has been in the works since 2013, but the launch has been delayed multiple times. Expected to be released for the 2016 model year, the vehicle will feature an updated split grille and a more powerful, muscle-car-inspired look. The size of the vehicle isn't expected to change, but Chevy is rumored to be eyeing the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, as well as a dual-clutch transmission. The brand has also been equipping their vehicles with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and we should expect to see their future vehicles feature these capabilities. Ever the gold bow tie logos have been swapped for black. The actual Silverado isn't just a standard edition, either. As Wheeler explains, the trim also include rear park assist and heat power mirrors. The Silverado was already an impressive vehicle, and the success could be attributed to any of the company's three EcoTec3 engines: the 4.3-liter V6 (which can produce up to 285 horsepower and 305 ft-lbs of torque), 5.3-liter V8 (355 horsepower, 383 ft-lbs of torque) and 6.2-liter V8 (420 horsepower, 460 ft-lbs of torque). The 6.2-liter engine is also capable of towing up to 12,000 pounds, and it delivers a 15 city/21 highway mile per gallon fuel efficiency. Wheeler commended the vehicle for it's easy-to-operate truck bed and it spacious, quiet cabin. The base Silverado is available for $26,000, and you're looking at at least an extra $1,300 for the Midnight Edition. The Chevy Camaro ZL1 has hit the ground running since it made it's debut back in 2011. Including a supercharged engine, improved power (assisted by innovative technology), and some track-ready features, the supercar was generally regarded as one of the best on the market. It shouldn't come as much of a surprise that many car enthusiasts are anticipating the release of the 2017 model, which could be one of the most impressive cars on the market. There hasn't been much news on the car, but John Halas and the team at CarScoops.com got their hands on some exclusive photos of the vehicle. Before you head out to your local Lexington Chevrolet dealership, see why you may want to wait for the 2017 ZL1... more Sure, the pictures don't reveal a whole lot about the vehicle's "styling details," but that doesn't mean the CarScoops report doesn't give us anything. As Halas writes, we can clearly see a large heat extractor, and the inclusion of such a part would make plenty of sense. After all, a similar part is included on the Corvette Z06 and the Cadillac CTS-V, and both of those car's use a similar LT4 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine. Because of these assumptions, Halas took some liberties when it came to projecting the vehicle's specs. The Z06 produces 650 horsepower and 650 ft-lbs of torque, while the Z06 can pump out 640 horsepower and 630 ft-lbs of torque. Even if the ZL1's numbers fall somewhere in that range, it would still be an upgrade over the 5th generation model, which delivered 580 horsepower and 550 ft-lbs of torque. There's a variety of other assumed specs/features that Halas throws out there, including a reduced curb weight (which, based on the regular Camaro 6, should be down around 200 pounds), a revamped suspension and brake bits, and a "more aggressive body kit." The writer refers to the spy photos for this latter projection, noting that the car "seemed more complete than others did, sporting wider rocket panels, a bigger fixed rear wing, a deep front splitter and possibly blistered fenders to make space for the wider tires." Unfortunately, potential buyers are going to have to wait a couple of months before they can get their hands on Chevy's new car. The 2017 ZL1 is expected to be released following the launch of the 2016 Camaro Convertible, which is expected to hit the market next spring.
