The 2010 Equinox Total Makeover Receiving a complete overhaul for the 2010 model year, the Chevy Equinox caught the attention of consumers and industry experts for its new style, improved fuel economy, and more affordable pricing. Standard equipment in the 2010 Equinox comes from a base level 2.4-liter four-cylinder, rated at 182 horsepower and 172 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and front wheel drive. Also available is a V6 engine, producing 264 horsepower and 222 lb.-ft. of torque. All-wheel drive is optional with either drivetrain. The 2010 Equinox demanded attention for its fuel efficiency ratings. From the four-wheel-drive four-cylinder, the EPA estimated the Equinox at 22/32 with 26 mpg combined. With its hushed ride and comfortable cabin, the 2010 model year is a great target when considering a used Equinox purchase. Chevy is trying to tap into the market of consumers who seek to personalize their pickup trucks, at least on the exterior. The best place to start was with the brand's award-winning and seriously popular Colorado. "As the Colorado continues to win over new customers, the new Midnight Edition and Z71 Trail Boss give them more choices and build on segment-leading capabilities and efficiency," according to Johnson. Sales of the Chevy Colorado began in 2014. So far this year, total sales have topped out at 48,784, and the year isn't over yet. For July alone, Chevy sold more than 7,200 Colorado pickup trucks. Just going by those numbers, it seems safe to assume that these two special editions will prove popular. The 2016 Chevy Colorado: The Midnight Edition As its name suggests, the 2016 Chevy Colorado Midnight Edition is all black - from the grille, signature bowtie, and aluminum wheels, which measure 18 inches. Also, expect an ebony-colored spray-on bed liner, complemented by a black folding tonneau cover, and black sill plates sporting the Chevy logo. The Midnight Edition can be ordered as an extended or crew cab, in either two or four-wheel drive, equipped with any one of the trio of available engine options, including: the 2.5-liter four-cylinder, 3.6-liter V6, or the brand new turbo diesel 2.8-liter Duramax engine. With all these options, it's important to note that the Midnight Edition is only available on the LT trim level. The Chevy Colorado, aka "Truck of the Year" for 2015 Yep, Motor Trend named the 2015 Chevy Colorado its "Truck of the Year," and other auto industry authorities have followed suit. Car and Driver ranked this year's Colorado its number one in mid-size pickup trucks and Edmunds even gave it an A, calling it "the most up-to-date and refined midsize pickup truck available." Featuring a complete redesign, the Colorado comes in an extended cab, with two or four seats, or a five-seat crew cab. Four trim levels include the Base, Work Truck, LT, and high-end Z71. With two available bed lengths and four trim levels, the Colorado exceeds the expectations of the midsize segment, boasting never before seen refinement from a pickup truck, with a comfortable and noticeably hushed ride. Technologically-savvy, the Colorado offers all the safety and infotainment features that are now expected as standard , including a rearview backup camera, and available eight-inch Chevy MyLink touchscreen infotainment, with connectivity guaranteed by the 4G LTE WiFi. The Colorado comes with two drivetrain options. Choose from the base 2.5-liter four cylinder, rated at 200 horsepower with 191 lb.-ft. of torque or the available 3.6-liter V6 engine, able to produce 305 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque. Towing capacity from the V6 is measured at 7,000 pounds, while the four-cylinder gets about half that, rated at a maximum of 3,500 pounds. Fuel economy for the four-cylinder is EPA-estimated at 22 mpg combined (19 city/26 highway), but boosts by one in each category to 22 mpg combined (20 city/27 highway) when paired to the six-speed automatic with two wheel drive. The V6 drops a bit, estimated by the EPA at 21 mpg combined (18 city/26 highway) with two-wheel drive and 20 mpg combined (17 city/24 highway) from the four-wheel drive. Edmunds administered the zero to sixty miles per hour test, with a Colorado crew cab short bed, equipped with four-wheel drive, making the sprint in 7.5 seconds - very quick for a pickup truck. The LT and Z71 Trim Levels Before Special Treatment... Although both the Base and Work Truck trim levels are capable and versatile, let's take a look at the LT and Z71 trim levels without the special edition details. After all, the Midnight Edition and Trail Boss editions just enhance what are already amazing pickup packages in their own right. First up, the Colorado LT… The LT is loaded with features, starting with those available in the lower trim levels from the WT Convenience and Work Truck Appearance packages. From the WT Convenience package, expect cruise control, keyless entry, anti-theft system, and Chevy's EZ-Lift tailgate. With the Work Truck Appearance package, the Colorado gets body-colored mirrors, complemented by matching door handles and rear bumper, as well as 16-inch alloy wheels. The LT takes all that and then adds 17-inch alloy wheels, overhead console, cruise control, OnStar, 4G LTE WiFi, Chevy MyLink broadcast on an eight-inch display, featuring satellite and Pandora radio, along with additional convenience features like a tilt-and-telescoping leather-wrapped adjustable steering wheel, illuminated visor mirrors, and power-adjustable exterior mirrors with integrated convex spotter mirrors. Additional bells and whistles are bundled in the LT Convenience package, including rear window defogger, front fog lights, remote start, and EZ-Lift tailgate. For some added luxury, the aptly named Luxury package adds onto the Convenience package, offering heated chrome exterior mirrors, chrome door handles, chrome rear bumper, heated front seats, automatic climate control and projector-style headlights, in addition to creature comforts like a front power passenger seat, with power lumbar adjustments for the driver and shotgun rider. If you want to enhance the already solid safety features in the Colorado, the Safety package supplies lane departure warning and forward collision alert systems. All of this starts at the MSRP of $25,170. Taking It Even Further…the Z71 At the top of the Chevy Colorado trims is the competitive, all-terrain Z71, initially priced at $27,630. Take all of the LT features, and add the unmistakable LED daytime running lights, off-road-oriented suspension (obviously), supported by hill descent control, and set it all atop tinted 17-inch alloy wheels, and you've got the Z71, complete with a sophisticated cloth-leatherette combined interior cabin. When it comes to the Chevy Colorado and whether you should wait for the 2016 release of the Midnight Edition and Trail Boss, or hop behind the wheel of the award-winning 2015, you'll win either way. So you're looking for a used truck, and you've ultimately concluded that you want an older Chevy. Where do you start? Well the possibilities are almost endless (with the keyword being endless). Chevrolet S-10 EV Only 492 of these trucks were actually produced, and Jalopnik.com claims that only 60 of them were ever sold! What made the truck so unpopular? The car was electrically powered via the EV-1 engine, allowing for only 114 horsepower. The car differed from previous S-10s in that it was configured with front-wheel-drive, as opposed to the standard rear-wheel-drive setup. The car accelerated from 0 to 50 mph in 13.5 seconds, and it's top speed peaked at 70 mph. It was only on the market from 1997 through 1998 before it was discontinued.

Chevy announces it will feature CarPlay and Android Auto in 14 models arriving in 2016.  The first to accommodate the new systems will be the Tahoe, Suburban and Volt. The demand for onboard functional systems is great but unfortunately, previous and existing types of systems fail to impress car buyers.  According to JD Power, customers complain more about the infotainment system than any other part in the car. Consumers want the technology in their cars to update as quickly as their cell phones do.  Acknowledgment that the smartphone is an essential part of our everyday lives was the first step to solving this problem.  Enter CarPlay. more Your Apple and Android Now Have a Home On Your Interface CarPlay, an Apple product, is described as the smarter safer way to use your phone while in the car.  Plugging your phone into a cord, not the USB, and a screen similar to that on your phone appears on the interface. With buttons and icons large enough to push without being too specific limits the amount of time your eyes are off the road.  Siri is still voice activated and coming along for the ride to help you remain hands free and less distracted. Because of the speed at which smartphones get upgraded is exponentially greater than that of your car’s on board technology, there simply isn’t any way to for manufacturers to compete.  GM, Chevy’s parent company, understands this and has been working with Apple and Android. “Partnering with Apple and Google to offer CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility across the widest range of models in the industry is a great example of how Chevrolet continues to democratize technology that’s important to our customers.” Chevy is the first to offer both Android as well as Apple systems. Simplicity and Flexibility Unlike car systems that forced the customer to learn their particular system which would become outdated almost as quickly as it left the lot, this new interface operates like your cell phone does.  It’s almost exactly the same as the screen on your phone so you’re immediately familiar with how it works. The interface is offered in two screen sizes, one at 7” and the other 8”.  Currently Android users only get the 7” screen to choose from, but that is due to change. Way of the Future Chevy is confidently heading forward with both systems.  “A year or two from now, why wouldn’t you have this?” says Chevy’s director of user experience, Dan Kinney.  Though they don’t expect this system to fully replace OEM (original equipment manufacturer) features like AM/FM radio and climate control won’t be controlled by CarPlay. Like your cell phone, CarPlay or Android Auto needs a connection for use of certain applications and features, like navigation.  There’s also the possibility that something could happen to your phone; damage, breakage, or being lost. New Drivetrains Customers will get a choice between two engine options for the 2016 Malibu: All-New Ecotec 1.5L turbo engine 2.0L turbocharged engine An all-new Ecotec 1.5L turbo engine with stop/start technology will be standard in the 2016 Malibu and will contribute to awesome fuel efficiency – up to 37 mpg on the highway and 27 mpg in the city. The standard engine will deliver 160 hp and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, and work beside a six-speed automatic transmission. LS: Moving up to the LS line, you’ll see a rearview backup camera come standard, along with active grille shutters and a seven-inch infotainment screen, the smaller version compared to the newly available eight-inch screen, seen on the upper trim levels. LT: The LT offers additional LED running lights, while the high-end, and aptly named, Premier level sports LED taillights, leather and ventilated seats, rear-seat USB ports, a 110-volt outlet, and a wireless phone charger. Hybrid: This Malibu has the best fuel efficiency, offering you up to an EPA-estimated 46 mpg combined. Premier: This is the top trim, which offers you the full suite of features, including automatic climate control, a navigation system, LED taillamps, an eight-inch touchscreen, a Bose audio system, and more. Whether base or Premier, the 2016 Chevy Malibu will exceed your expectations. How About a Hybrid? Sure! But not just a hybrid, a seriously fuel-efficient hybrid. The new addition to the Malibu lineup, the Malibu Hybrid, will have outstanding fuel efficiency, thanks to an all-new hybrid powertrain that uses technology from the Chevy Volt to offer 48 mpg city and 45 mpg highway. This is unbelievably impressive, especially for the midsize sedan class. Able to get 55 miles per hour on just electric power, the Chevy Malibu hybrid generates 182 horsepower and can zip from zero to sixty miles per hour in 7.8 seconds.
