Most people have a good idea of how to install their Chevrolet's battery. But what most people don't do is plan—because planning is more than just reaction, it's thinking ahead. When will your car battery die on you, and where will you be? Will your engine fail to turn over when you're already five minutes late to work, or will the process your Chevrolet uses to recharge your battery cease to function properly, leaving you stranded out and about. As Americans we want to tackle every problem head on, and often forget the old idiom that advises discretion as the better part of valor. Your local Chevrolet dealer thinks bigger picture about things like safety and prevention, and wants you to take a moment to do so as well. So slow your mind down as it catalogs the few tools you'll need to change out your battery successfully, and think about family or friends that might be either borrowing your Chevrolet, or for whatever reason have to handle installation, when the battery dies. more Preventative Maintenance The best thing to do is preventative maintenance. Total preventative maintenance extends to far more than just your Chevrolet's battery, like checking tire pressure, the conditions of your brakes, fluid levels, and cleaning debris build up; but unlike low tire pressure, battery problems are show stopping. One of the easiest things you can is do is have your battery tested one a year, or even once a quarter as it ages. This way you'll be alerted early on if your battery isn't holding a charge like it used to, and will be able to replace it before it becomes a problem. However, remembering to do this is often times difficult as life is busy and schedules sometimes don't allow the flexibility needed. And even if your battery still carries a strong charge doesn't mean machines won't malfunction and leave you, your loved ones, or your friends to install a new battery. Tools and Process Changing your vehicle's battery might require a few tools. The best way to figure this out is by referring to the owner's manual while doing a mock battery change out. This may seem silly but there is no other way to be sure of what exactly you'll need. The practice of trial runs coupled with forward thought is something that many industries use to keep their vehicles running well, such as law enforcement and the military, and can be applied to vehicles you don't own but use, such as work trucks. If you decide to forgo this process and simply think you'll only need the tools afforded to you in the multi-tool you keep attached to your belt, you might find yourself out of luck. Some batteries are held in place extra securely with some kind of retention plate and bolt. These simplistic safeguards ensure that your battery doesn't bounce around, but is instead held rock solid in the same spot no matter what bumps the terrain might throw your way. Safety Beyond what tools are required it's important to think about what safety precautions are needed. There could be corrosive build up on the terminals that will need to be removed, and hand protection should be worn during the removal. An often overlooked facet of personal protective equipment that should be worn during a battery installation is eye protection. Batteries, although stable the majority of the time, are filled with a strong acid and can be volatile. If the acid were to come in contact with a person's eyes it could result in loss of vision or permanent disfigurement. A full plastic face mask is recommended to be certain harmful materials are kept far away from eyes and face. However, full face masks are clunky, and often times they aren't on hand. Be sure to wear, at the very minimum, some kind of eye protection. Other kinds of personal protective equipment to have on hand while changing your battery are gloves. Although thin, plastic gloves are better than nothing, they tear easily and won't protect your hand in the event you mash it between the battery and your car, or accidentally pinch your fingers in a tight space. The kind of gloves that mechanics where, with hard plastic over the knuckles, are preferred. If you were to drop the battery on your hand gloves like these will afford you the most protection possible. That isn't to say that you won't be hurt if you drop the battery on your hands—and if you're thinking, “Well, I won't do anything so clumsy,” ask yourself, would your friends or loved ones? But all the personal protective equipment in the world can't save you from yourself, so remember not to touch your face while you work on your car. It seems like one of those things that should go without saying, but most people spend only a very small fraction of their time dealing with hazardous material. It's easy to feel sweat beading on your forward and wipe you're face not realizing your smearing what could be acid, rust, or heavy metals all over yourself—potentially in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If this happens flush your eyes and affected areas and seek medical treatment. Walking into an emergency room to explain how you hurt yourself doing what most people consider simple automotive maintenance isn't something anyone relishes, but could become a reality if the needs of the future are met with neglect. Being prepared, planning to install your battery, can save you not only this embarrassment but can give you peace of mind that your friends and loved ones are in the best possible position to succeed. But planning doesn't stop with the immediacy of needing spark from the battery. Preparation All of the equipment and gear involved in the plan so far can easily fit into a duffle bag and fit into your trunk. And since there is probably room in that bag, it might be wise to include a headlamp, road flares, a reflective triangle, jumper cables, water, food, water proof ponchos, and blankets depending on the weather. And while you're planning to change your battery in the event of failure, it seems intuitive to check on the car jack and spare tire. Maybe include some extra fuel if you live in an sparsely populated area. Because success, like failure, can occur because of a domino effect. If you've planned ahead and really thought about when you'll need to install your car battery, you won't find yourself on a dark road without any light or tools, the slight patter of rain soaking through your clothes. And if you really want to go the extra mile you could even purchase a spare batter and have on hand. If this seems excessive, take into account the military saying, “two is one, one is none,” when it comes to critical items. Success After all that thinking ahead and planning you're ready to change your Chevrolet's battery; you even did a couple of dry runs to be sure you understand how to properly install the battery. But did you show your wife and kids, or talk to your aging mother who sometimes uses the car to run errands or visit relatives, and did you tell your friend who borrows it about the kit you put together in your old gym bag and stowed away in the trunk? Edmunds.com has recently come out with a list detailing the top ten used cars purchased by millennials, and the results are pretty interesting. The analysis investigated what types of used vehicles the target market have previously purchased and continued to purchase since early 2005. The evidence tends to suggest that millennials, individuals aged 18 to 34, are fairly practical when it comes to shopping for new vehicles, often preferring to go the used vehicle route. The Pontiac Aztek has never been considered an attractive car given its strange appearance and build, and yet it still makes the cut. In fact, it has reappeared on the list every single year since 2010 due to its low cost and affordability. Other popular vehicles included in the study are the Chrysler Dodge Magnum, which was discontinued in 2008, but maintained 27.6 percent share of sales to millennials, as evidenced by data collected over the first half of this year. The Chrysler Pacificia trailed closely behind at 27.3 percent, then the Chevrolet Trailblazer at 25.9 percent, the Volkswagen R32 at 25.7 percent, Pontiac Aztec at 25.5 percent, and the Saturn Outlook at 25.3 percent, each comprising a significant amount of purchases. Millennials have not often been considered the most financially savvy group by the media, but when it comes to cars, one thing is clear from the analysis: practicality rules in the used car marketplace for this group. Affordability and low costs have been, and continue to, trump new makes, models, and trends. Ultimately, Millennials are not concerned with what is hot or what is cool, but what is logical and makes sense for their budgets. Edmunds.com continued on to state that used car purchases comprised of a total of 78 percent of all Millennial car purchases the prior year. Only 68 percent of car buyers above the age of 35 did the same. Traffic to used car pages on Edmunds.com last year by Millennials consisted of 39 percent, and they also contributed to 58 percent of mobile traffic to the pages as well.

We've got some good news for those who have been hoping for a Chevrolet Cruze hatchback to hit American soil. John Stapleton, the General Motors North America Chief Financial Officer, took the stage at the Citi 2015 Industrials Conference in Boston recently, and he confirmed to investors that the vehicle will soon be in development (although the release date and model year have yet to be determined). This is a big development for the hatchback market, where the Cruze will join a variety of already-available and soon-to-be-available cars. Of course, considering the success of the Cruze, we should expect Chevy's newest creation to jump to the top of the class. Before you head out to your local Chevy dealer in Lexington, Kentucky, see why you may want to hold off on making a purchase… more As Melissa Burden of The Detroit News writes, the automaker had originally revealed a concept for a 2016 Chevy Cruze sedan back in June. The "larger and lighter" vehicle is expected to deliver 40 miles per gallon on the highway, and it should be available for the start of 2016. There's no reports regarding an exact release date for the hatchback, but Burden wonders if it may follow the release of the sedan. Regardless, the company has already made progress on the vehicle, as previous reports suggested that dealers were shown the hatchback during a June meeting in Las Vegas. Of course, by progress, we mean that Chevrolet and General Motors has been busy orienting their vehicle towards the American market. The vehicle has already seen plenty of success overseas, as the hatchback has been sold in both Europe and China. Mark Reuss, General Motors' product chief, previously told AutoNews.com that the lack of a Cruze hatchback on the United States market was a "pre-bankruptcy planning mistake." “We are excited about the introduction of the all-new 2016 Cruze and what it will offer customers,” a Chevrolet spokeswoman said (via Burden). “The hatch variant helped make the Cruze Chevrolet’s best-selling car globally and that body style will continue to be offered in various markets. However, we are not confirming markets, timing or content at this time.” There are whispers that Chevy could be looking to add a five-door model Cruze to the United States market in an attempt to compete with rival companies. If we're looking for specifics, the brand may be eyeing Honda, which recently announced that they'd be releasing their own hatchback version of the Honda Civic. The Civic sedan will launch in the new few months, but it's also uncertain when the hatchback will hit dealer lots. Furthermore, the brand could be looking at Ford Motor Company, where the Ford Focus hatchback accounts for 40-percent of the nameplate's sales. As Burden points out, other potential competitors are the Hyundai Elantra, Volkswagen Golf and Mazda3. Jens Meiners of CarAndDriver.com also suggests that Chevy could be wanting to add a hatchback due to the desire to have a bigger, more flexible, and stylish vehicle. In reviewing the European version, the writer noted how family friendly the vehicle was, noting the vehicle's (surprisingly) roomy interior. Meiners also appreciated the quiet and "unobtrusive" motor noise, making "long journeys" that much more enjoyable. Finally, the writer was impressed with the styling of the hatchback, noting that the designers have added "tension to an attractive but somewhat conservative design." While all of these car brands look to add hatchbacks to their line of cars, the segment has generally been declining in sales over the past few years. Tom Libby, the manager of loyalty solutions and industry analysis at HIS Automotive, told Burden that hatchbacks accounted for 5.2-percent of retail sales in the past year. However, "the hatchback percentage in the U.S. has fallen each year since 2012." Reversely, Libby anticipates the percentage to climb to 5.8-percent by 2018 (he also anticipates the Cruze hatchback to hit the United States market by 2017). “The success of the crossover is affecting all other body types except for pickups,” Libby said, noting that Chevy's desire to add the segment is an acknowledgement that production of a Cruze is "partially in response to the success of the Focus." The foreign hatchback was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 2010, and sales began in 2011. The standard European Cruze Hatchback offers a LS four-cylinder 1.4-liter engine with front-wheel drive, a five-speed manual transmission, McPherson Strut/Compound Crank Axles, and a multi-point fuel injection system. The vehicle can deliver an estimated 98 horsepower, 95 ft-lbs of torque, 52.3 mile per gallon combined fuel efficiency, and it has an estimated 0-60 time of 14.1 seconds. The vehicle rides on 16-inch steel wheels. The vehicle is available in ten different colors (including Summit White, Blue Sapphire, Carbon Flash Black, Deep Espresso Brown, Ice Silver, Mars Stone, Mystic Moonlight Blue, Satin Steel Grey, Smokey Grey, and Velvet Red), and it's accented by a black grille. Chevy has also included bi-functional halogen headlamps and tinted glass. Head to the inside of the hatchback, and you'll find multiple 12-volt power sockets, a trip computer, a roomy storage box, and a leather-wrapped gear knob and steering wheel. Among the safety features are an anti-lock braking system, an electronic stability control, rear parking sensors, a tire pressure monitoring system, and an innovative ISOFIX child seat restraint system. The Chevy Cruze hit the market in 2009, but the nameplate had previously been used in Japan for a Suzuki-Chevy subcompact hatchback. In the United States, the Cruze replaced the Chevy Cobalt and the Daewoo Lacetti, and the brand was counting on the vehicle to help turn around sales. The inexpensive (albeit, innovative) vehicle was an immediate hit in America and around the world. The nameplate has been commended for it's safety features, receiving a score of 35.04 points out of 37 from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program in 2009. The vehicle also received high scores in China, Europe, and South Korea. In the United States, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rewarded the vehicle the highest possible score in front, side, rear and rollover crash protection tests, and it was also deemed a 'Top Safety Pick.' The second generation Cruze has been in the works since 2013, but the launch has been delayed multiple times. Expected to be released for the 2016 model year, the vehicle will feature an updated split grille and a more powerful, muscle-car-inspired look. The size of the vehicle isn't expected to change, but Chevy is rumored to be eyeing the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, as well as a dual-clutch transmission. The brand has also been equipping their vehicles with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and we should expect to see their future vehicles feature these capabilities. As we mentioned, you'll have to wait some time for the Cruze hatchback to hit your local Chevy lot, but that doesn't mean you can't anticipate the release. Bargain hunters will be pleased to see this Hyundai is offered between $7,000 and $11,000.  Low mileage Accents, though they’ll be hard to find, may price a bit higher but shouldn’t be more than $12,000. 2013 Chevy Sonic As the usual top rated pick for subcompact cars, the Sonic has enjoyed its time at the top and it’s well deserved it.  The Sonic has a winning combination of power, fuel efficiency, comfort and price.  Its top rated safety scores and turbocharged engine makes it super fun to drive while super safe as well.  All models for the 2013 year get bluetooth connectivity along with the option of Chevy’s infotainment system, myLink. Offering just a little bit less on fuel efficiency than the Spark or Accent, the Sonic pulls in 26 city mpgs and 35 highway, which are still great numbers, especially when considering that you’re likely to not pay over $13,000 for a 2013 used model.

Camaro's Chief Engineer “ Every Camaro model offers exceptional chassis strength and rigidity, but the modular design made the architecture more adaptable and mass-efficient, because we didn’t have to compensate for the unique demands of, say, the SS convertible when building a 2.0L Turbo coupe” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro's chief engineer. “The result was an elegant engineering solution: 12 chassis components that could be combined to meet the structural requirements of each specific model, without adding unnecessary mass to other models.” From Zeta to Alpha Rather than being built on the Zeta platform, like its predecessors, the 2016 Camaro is built on GM’s Alpha platform.  If that sounds familiar, it’s because it was first used on Cadillac’s ATS and CTS models. The Alpha platform is light, stiff and modern which all work toward producing better performance. First Four in 30 The entry-level LT model comes with a four cylinder engine.  This may sound typical for a base model, except when you consider that this is the first one to be put in a Camaro in 30 years.  So why, when updating every part of this new Camaro would there suddenly be a 4 cylinder engine powering this beast?  Only because it’s a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder! Borrowed from the Cadillac ATS, this turbocharged four delivers 270 horsepower and 290 lb/ft of torque. “Don’t Forget Your Motley Crue t-shirt” Remember the early 1980’s and the 2.5L “Iron Duke” four that went screaming into every neighborhood between 1982-1986 and was the inspiration for the Dead Milkmen’s homage to the Jersey Shore in “ Bi*chin' Camaro”?  This engine nearly triples that amount of power.  Who’s going to be writing the theme song for this engine in another ten years? Major Weight Loss In order to perform the way they envisioned it to, the 2016 Camaro was going to have to lose weight.  Engineers had to get creative with how they were going to shed those LB’s.  This 6th generation Camaro is now more than 300 lbs lighter than its predecessors. How did it do this? Like stated earlier, engineers became creative. Swapping materials out, switching metals for hard plastics, doing whatever they could to get the weight down without compromising performance or safety. All V6 models have a front anti-roll bar drop links that are now molded from high-strength plastic.  The front suspension is made from specified aluminum with steel links that have extensive lightening holes to keep weight down.  The suspension alone lost about 26 pounds from last year’s model.  Altogether, the 2016 Camaro weighs 368 lbs less in its 6th generation than its previous generations. “ I believe the term was ‘tasty’." ( Better Off Dead about a 1967 Camaro) Customizable Gauge Cluster If the upper-trim versions are where you like to play (who doesn’t?) then you should be prepared for the fun, driver-centric accessories that will spoil you.  An 8-inch LCD screen sits between the analog speedometer and tachometer. On this screen, you can display three different instrument configurations; at least four different screens on the bottom and three on the top.  These screens are independent of what is the 8-inch LCD screen is displaying on the interface. Catering to the driver and their specific needs, so as to not be distracting but clear, are what makes this Camaro the clear choice for any driver who likes to be in control. Wider Track Because the Alpha platform structure was already developed for the Cadillac ATS and CTS, and because the Camaro has a wider track (1.6 inches greater up front and 1.2 inches wider in back), painstaking attention was going to have to be paid to the suspension to ensure the proper fit while preserving the Alpha structure. Engineers found a solution by using longer suspension pieces on the same pickup points. Laser Welded Roof When they say ‘ the devil is in the details’ they mean it.  Details are what matter when claiming good American quality and craftsmanship.  Details are what make the difference between choosing this car or that one. When cars have unsightly finishes, plastic strips or plain unfinished work showing, that is a definite deterrent.  The 2016 Camaro was not designed with this to every happen.  When the roof of the Camaro was welded to the sides, the seam was laser-welded.  A laser weld produces a neat seam that requires no handwork and looks arguably better than other seam work. Multipurpose HVAC Vents While driving a performance vehicle like the 2016 Camaro, you don’t want to be bothered with messy gauge clusters or too many buttons.  In an attempt to clean up the gauge cluster and minimize the number of buttons, the engineers designed for an easier way to adjust the temperature.  Each outer ring on the central air outlets rotate to set the system temperature.  Once set, the temperature is shown on the central LCD display. Clever devices like this are what make the 2016 Camaro stand out for its innovation and supreme engineering. V8 Engine Has Three Radiators Having three radiators is a bit, shall we say, out of the the norm.  So, in a way to be unconventionally conventional, the main radiator is located in the conventional position while the two smaller radiators are stationed on either side, flanking the first, mounted at right angles. The SS Model is Ready to Blow Your Hair Back Not that it has anything to prove for its upcoming 50th birthday, but hey, why not take it out on the track for a spin? It is 100% rated track capable.  This means that without cooking it’s engine, transmission, differentials or brakes, it can run for an entire tank of fuel at maximum speed around GM’s Mildford Road Course without. Reason why it has so many radiators. Functional Hood Vents First off, the Camaro SS is meant to be on the track.  It’s meant to go fast and meant to be a muscle car.  Combine that with its lightening fast speed and its tremendous weight loss, and you’ll know that this wasn’t designed with extra nonsensical items.  This Camaro was designed so that every piece of material on it serves a function.
