Roads..." more The Heavy Duty 2015 Chevy Silverados Now the fastest-growing full-size pickup brand of the 2015 model year, the 2015 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD, and 2500 HD pickup trucks are a rodeo favorite for good reason. Team Chevy Rodeo, which consists of five rodeo stars, Luke Branquinho, Richmond Champion, Tuf Cooper, Fallon Taylor, and Travis Graves, personify the Chevy brand's ideals when it comes to being rugged, versatile, strong, and just plain tough. According to Paul Edwards, the U.S. Vice President of Chevrolet Marketing, "This team is as hardworking on the ranch as they are in the arena. There isn't a more authentic group to convey the message that the Silverado is the most dependable, longest-lasting pickup on the road." Dependability is provided, in part, by the Silverado's robust engines. The standard 6.0-liter V8, for example, generates 360 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque, which can certainly help you get just about any job done. The exterior showcases chrome detailing just about everywhere, from the front grille complemented by the six-inch chrome side steps, with body-colored front and back bumpers. While the 2500 HD stands atop 20-inch chrome wheels, the 3500 HD works its way with 18-inch chromes, with the dually ready for action on 17-inch forged aluminum wheels. A variety of options comes available to up the comfort, convenience, and even entertainment factors, including a sunroof, heated steering wheel, power adjustable pedals, a rear-seat entertainment system, and navigation technology. Operating with the same powertrain, the Grand Sport was quicker by 0.1 seconds, thanks to the available dual-mode exhaust system, which boosts the horsepower to 436 and the torque to 428 lb.-ft. With this drivetrain, the Corvette gets fuel efficiency rated at 16 city, 26 highway, and 19 mpg combined, which drops to 15 city, 26 highway, and 18 mpg combined if you choose the automatic transmission. For optimal performance, the Z06 is outfitted with a 7.0-liter V8 engine, which produces a whopping 505 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. With this engine, the Z06 crushes the zero to sixty performance test in 3.9 seconds. Despite the enhanced performance, the fuel efficiency ratings remain solid at 15 city, 24 highway, and 18 mpg combined. But, the power doesn't top out there. Check out the ZR1, powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter V8, which roars with 638 horsepower and 604 lb.-ft. of torque. Even though it only returned a 0.1 second faster time than the Z06, behind the wheel, the feel is must faster. As far as fuel economy, the numbers drop a bit to 14 city, 20 highway, and 16 mpg combined. We couldn't care less. After all, who drives a sports car for its fuel economy? Even with all this muscle and power, the 2012 Corvette impressed the Edmunds team during brake testing, with the base model stopping from sixty mph in a respectable 118 feet, the Grand Sport and ZR1 between an outstanding 100 and 104 feet, and finally, the Z06 made the stop in a breathtaking 96 feet - practically a record-setter. The 2016 Chevy Silverado A long-standing Chevy favorite, the full-size Silverado 1500 pickup truck really shows off in the new model year, boasting a few "best-in-class" accolades already. We've been taking in all of the Chevy Bolt EV news we can possibly get, and the latest rumblings have to do with the vehicle's interior. Before you head out to a Chevrolet dealer like Dan Cummins, see why you may want to await the release of the electric vehicle… Brandon Turkus of AutoBlog.com got a look inside of the electric sedan, and we've passed along all of that information to you, which you'll find below. more Turkus describes the interior as a blend between the Chevy Sonic and Volt. The traditional instrument cluster has been replaced with a digital display, and that will accompany a large display in the center stack. Furthermore, the center display is reportedly using different software than that of other vehicles, particularly the MyLink system used by Chevy. This may ultimately end up being insignificant, as Turkus is unsure whether the system is solely being used as development software (which would indicate it's not intended for production) or if it's actually the future of the brands "connectivity suite." The writer focuses in on the car's shifter, which he describes as "BMW-like." This is part of General Motors' desire to cater to all car buyers. "We're going to continue to make great cars and let the cars speak for themselves to people who want them," Fletcher said. "And we're not doing it with just one. Look at this from a showroom perspective. This is an incredible statement of the commitment of Chevrolet to electrification." It was originally reported that Chevy's new electric vehicle, the Chevrolet Bolt, would be ready sometime in 2017. There's good news for those hoping to get their hands on the first long-range EV (electric vehicle) by a mainstream brand, as General Motors announced that they've accelerated development on the innovative car. The 2017 Bolt EV is already being assembled in both South Korea and at the General Motors Orion Assembly plant in Orion, Michigan. “Effectively these are the bones of the car that’s going to be the production Chevy Bolt,” Tavel told Greg Migliore of AutoBlog.com. 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV Design We got a sneak peek at the Bolt earlier in June, as a camouflaged crossover/hatchback was photographed during a road test. While there haven’t been many details released regarding any specific interior or exterior features, Migliore used the disguised car’s outline to come up with some basic, assumed features. “The car also has a tall greenhouse, slight creases in the sides, and a sloping roofline in back,” the writer described. “There’s a rapidly rising body line that makes for less glass for rear passengers, but that’s probably part of the camo.” Nikki Gordon-Bloomfield of TransportEvolved.com also tried her hand at analyzing the hooded car. She noticed an update rear tailgate, a previously undisclosed (at least on the concept car) rear wiper, and a considerably higher license plate holder. Gordon-Bloomfield suspects that General Motors may be eliminating their two-piece glass rear tailgate (as seen on the concept car), instead including a more-standard hatch with one pane of glass. All of these changes can be added to the list compiled during the revealing of the concept car, which saw alterations to the front bumper, lower apron, side mirrors, and wheels. Furthermore, Migliore reports that more than 1,000 Chevy engineers are testing the vehicle for competence in “ride and handling dynamics, cabin comfort, quietness, charging capability, and energy efficiency.” This week, we got a video featuring the camouflaged Bolt, with the vehicle being put through both speed and acceleration tests. The car is also shown being charged at a DC quick-charging station, using, as Voelcker points out, the standard US-German CCS connector. That’s about it for details, as Voelcker’s attempted requests for more information were denied. However, the writer believes the car’s architecture could be similar to the next-generation Chevy Sonic subcompact lineup, considering that both car’s are being produced in Michigan. When asked about the lithium-ion cell supplier and the size of the battery pack, Fletcher told Voelcker that the “LG Chem has been a very valued and trusted supplier.” A big selling point for the Bolt (and fellow electric vehicles) will be the availability of the necessary charging stations, and owners will probably be inconvenienced as they look to recharge their batteries. Of course, as Volt chief engineer Andrew Farah told Gardner, the dedicated owners should be able to recharge from the convenience of their own homes. “As these EV ranges get longer, the idea that you have to get a full charge overnight at home is not so much an issue because you don’t usually discharge it every day completely,” Farah said. When Can I Buy a 2017 Chevy Bolt EV? It looks like you’ll have to wait more than a year to get behind the wheel of a new Chevy Bolt. However, it should come as a pleasant surprise that the innovative electric vehicle is ahead of schedule. In a year’s time, plenty of additional information regarding the Bolt will be released. As Americans we want to tackle every problem head on, and often forget the old idiom that advises discretion as the better part of valor. We've got some good news for those who have been hoping for a Chevrolet Cruze hatchback to hit American soil. John Stapleton, the General Motors North America Chief Financial Officer, took the stage at the Citi 2015 Industrials Conference in Boston recently, and he confirmed to investors that the vehicle will soon be in development (although the release date and model year have yet to be determined). This is a big development for the hatchback market, where the Cruze will join a variety of already-available and soon-to-be-available cars. Of course, considering the success of the Cruze, we should expect Chevy's newest creation to jump to the top of the class. The "larger and lighter" vehicle is expected to deliver 40 miles per gallon on the highway, and it should be available for the start of 2016. There's no reports regarding an exact release date for the hatchback, but Burden wonders if it may follow the release of the sedan. Regardless, the company has already made progress on the vehicle, as previous reports suggested that dealers were shown the hatchback during a June meeting in Las Vegas. Of course, by progress, we mean that Chevrolet and General Motors has been busy orienting their vehicle towards the American market. The vehicle has already seen plenty of success overseas, as the hatchback has been sold in both Europe and China. Mark Reuss, General Motors' product chief, previously told AutoNews.com that the lack of a Cruze hatchback on the United States market was a "pre-bankruptcy planning mistake." “We are excited about the introduction of the all-new 2016 Cruze and what it will offer customers,” a Chevrolet spokeswoman said (via Burden). “The hatch variant helped make the Cruze Chevrolet’s best-selling car globally and that body style will continue to be offered in various markets. However, we are not confirming markets, timing or content at this time.” There are whispers that Chevy could be looking to add a five-door model Cruze to the United States market in an attempt to compete with rival companies. If we're looking for specifics, the brand may be eyeing Honda, which recently announced that they'd be releasing their own hatchback version of the Honda Civic. The Civic sedan will launch in the new few months, but it's also uncertain when the hatchback will hit dealer lots. Furthermore, the brand could be looking at Ford Motor Company, where the Ford Focus hatchback accounts for 40-percent of the nameplate's sales. As Burden points out, other potential competitors are the Hyundai Elantra, Volkswagen Golf and Mazda3. Jens Meiners of CarAndDriver.com also suggests that Chevy could be wanting to add a hatchback due to the desire to have a bigger, more flexible, and stylish vehicle. In reviewing the European version, the writer noted how family friendly the vehicle was, noting the vehicle's (surprisingly) roomy interior. Meiners also appreciated the quiet and "unobtrusive" motor noise, making "long journeys" that much more enjoyable. Finally, the writer was impressed with the styling of the hatchback, noting that the designers have added "tension to an attractive but somewhat conservative design." While all of these car brands look to add hatchbacks to their line of cars, the segment has generally been declining in sales over the past few years. Tom Libby, the manager of loyalty solutions and industry analysis at HIS Automotive, told Burden that hatchbacks accounted for 5.2-percent of retail sales in the past year. However, "the hatchback percentage in the U.S. has fallen each year since 2012." Reversely, Libby anticipates the percentage to climb to 5.8-percent by 2018 (he also anticipates the Cruze hatchback to hit the United States market by 2017). “The success of the crossover is affecting all other body types except for pickups,” Libby said, noting that Chevy's desire to add the segment is an acknowledgement that production of a Cruze is "partially in response to the success of the Focus." The foreign hatchback was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 2010, and sales began in 2011. The standard European Cruze Hatchback offers a LS four-cylinder 1.4-liter engine with front-wheel drive, a five-speed manual transmission, McPherson Strut/Compound Crank Axles, and a multi-point fuel injection system. The vehicle can deliver an estimated 98 horsepower, 95 ft-lbs of torque, 52.3 mile per gallon combined fuel efficiency, and it has an estimated 0-60 time of 14.1 seconds. The vehicle rides on 16-inch steel wheels. The vehicle is available in ten different colors (including Summit White, Blue Sapphire, Carbon Flash Black, Deep Espresso Brown, Ice Silver, Mars Stone, Mystic Moonlight Blue, Satin Steel Grey, Smokey Grey, and Velvet Red), and it's accented by a black grille. Chevy has also included bi-functional halogen headlamps and tinted glass. Head to the inside of the hatchback, and you'll find multiple 12-volt power sockets, a trip computer, a roomy storage box, and a leather-wrapped gear knob and steering wheel. Among the safety features are an anti-lock braking system, an electronic stability control, rear parking sensors, a tire pressure monitoring system, and an innovative ISOFIX child seat restraint system. The Chevy Cruze hit the market in 2009, but the nameplate had previously been used in Japan for a Suzuki-Chevy subcompact hatchback. In the United States, the Cruze replaced the Chevy Cobalt and the Daewoo Lacetti, and the brand was counting on the vehicle to help turn around sales. The inexpensive (albeit, innovative) vehicle was an immediate hit in America and around the world. The nameplate has been commended for it's safety features, receiving a score of 35.04 points out of 37 from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program in 2009. The vehicle also received high scores in China, Europe, and South Korea. In the United States, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rewarded the vehicle the highest possible score in front, side, rear and rollover crash protection tests, and it was also deemed a 'Top Safety Pick.' The second generation Cruze has been in the works since 2013, but the launch has been delayed multiple times. Expected to be released for the 2016 model year, the vehicle will feature an updated split grille and a more powerful, muscle-car-inspired look. The size of the vehicle isn't expected to change, but Chevy is rumored to be eyeing the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, as well as a dual-clutch transmission. The brand has also been equipping their vehicles with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and we should expect to see their future vehicles feature these capabilities. Borrowed from the Cadillac ATS, this turbocharged four delivers 270 horsepower and 290 lb/ft of torque. “Don’t Forget Your Motley Crue t-shirt” Remember the early 1980’s and the 2.5L “Iron Duke” four that went screaming into every neighborhood between 1982-1986 and was the inspiration for the Dead Milkmen’s homage to the Jersey Shore in “ Bi*chin' Camaro”?  This engine nearly triples that amount of power.  Who’s going to be writing the theme song for this engine in another ten years? Major Weight Loss In order to perform the way they envisioned it to, the 2016 Camaro was going to have to lose weight.  Engineers had to get creative with how they were going to shed those LB’s.  This 6th generation Camaro is now more than 300 lbs lighter than its predecessors. How did it do this? Like stated earlier, engineers became creative. Swapping materials out, switching metals for hard plastics, doing whatever they could to get the weight down without compromising performance or safety. All V6 models have a front anti-roll bar drop links that are now molded from high-strength plastic.  The front suspension is made from specified aluminum with steel links that have extensive lightening holes to keep weight down.  The suspension alone lost about 26 pounds from last year’s model.  Altogether, the 2016 Camaro weighs 368 lbs less in its 6th generation than its previous generations. “ I believe the term was ‘tasty’." ( Better Off Dead about a 1967 Camaro) Customizable Gauge Cluster If the upper-trim versions are where you like to play (who doesn’t?) then you should be prepared for the fun, driver-centric accessories that will spoil you.  An 8-inch LCD screen sits between the analog speedometer and tachometer. On this screen, you can display three different instrument configurations; at least four different screens on the bottom and three on the top.  These screens are independent of what is the 8-inch LCD screen is displaying on the interface. Catering to the driver and their specific needs, so as to not be distracting but clear, are what makes this Camaro the clear choice for any driver who likes to be in control. Wider Track Because the Alpha platform structure was already developed for the Cadillac ATS and CTS, and because the Camaro has a wider track (1.6 inches greater up front and 1.2 inches wider in back), painstaking attention was going to have to be paid to the suspension to ensure the proper fit while preserving the Alpha structure. Engineers found a solution by using longer suspension pieces on the same pickup points. Laser Welded Roof When they say ‘ the devil is in the details’ they mean it.  Details are what matter when claiming good American quality and craftsmanship.  Details are what make the difference between choosing this car or that one. When cars have unsightly finishes, plastic strips or plain unfinished work showing, that is a definite deterrent.  The 2016 Camaro was not designed with this to every happen.  When the roof of the Camaro was welded to the sides, the seam was laser-welded.  A laser weld produces a neat seam that requires no handwork and looks arguably better than other seam work. The SS Model is Ready to Blow Your Hair Back Not that it has anything to prove for its upcoming 50th birthday, but hey, why not take it out on the track for a spin? It is 100% rated track capable.  This means that without cooking it’s engine, transmission, differentials or brakes, it can run for an entire tank of fuel at maximum speed around GM’s Mildford Road Course without. Reason why it has so many radiators. Functional Hood Vents First off, the Camaro SS is meant to be on the track.  It’s meant to go fast and meant to be a muscle car.  Combine that with its lightening fast speed and its tremendous weight loss, and you’ll know that this wasn’t designed with extra nonsensical items.  This Camaro was designed so that every piece of material on it serves a function. Therefore, the vents on the aluminum hood the Camaro SS serve a purpose.  Their function is to relieve excess air from the engine compartment.  This helps cooling flow and reduces lift.  The position of the vents was chosen so that low-pressure air flowing over of the hood would help extract the underhood air.
